Marvel Studios stole the show at San Diego Comic-Con  with their Hall H panel on Saturday. After kicking things off with a teaser for and an unfinished scene from “Captain America,” Marvel unveiled the “Thor” trailer, and then a teaser for “The Avengers,” seemingly pulling out all of the stops to show off their Marvel Universe film series.

The biggest news to come out of the “Avengers” reveal was in regard to the cast lineup: Jeremy Renner will play Clint Barton a.k.a. Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo replaces Edward Norton as Bruce Banner a.k.a. the Hulk. On hand on Saturday was the “Avengers” principal cast thus far, including Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, as well as producer Kevin Feige and director Joss Whedon.

A small sampling of “Captain America” footage was screened as well. Both a teaser trailer showing Evans as Captain America for the first time and a scene featuring Hugo Weaving before he becomes the villain Red Skull were premiered before the cast took time to answer fan questions.

“People here might have had an opinion one way or the other, but at the end of the day I’m trying to make a character come to life,” Evans said about the response to his casting. “Hopefully, if we do our job right and the movie’s good, no one will have a problem with it – I hope.”

The 3-D “Thor” footage was full of surprises, including close-up shots of Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Tom Hiddleson as Loki, as well as a reveal of the Destroyer (an enchanted suit of armor of sorts) and the death of Odin. Natalie Portman as Jane Foster and Kat Dennings as Darcy were also featured in newly unveiled scenes.

“I am not in ‘The Avengers,’ but I am in the future ‘Thor’ films if and when they happen,” Portman said about her involvement, which explained why she was not in the lineup once the cast was revealed.
