Here’s the lowdown on the latest fashion news!
Androgynous model Andrej Pejic graces cover of Serbian Elle
Androgynous model Andrej Pejic, who French designer Jean Paul Gaultier called his “otherworldly beauty,” is now an Ellecovergirl.
According to the Telegraph, the 21-year-old model is featured in front and centre on Serbian Elle‘s January edition.
On the cover page, the cross-dressing model is dressed from head to toe in Gaultier and has traded his trademark platinum locks for a choppy black wig, the New York Daily News reported.
Inside the magazine, Pejic shows off the male and female versions of self in a feature named ‘Victor Victoria’.
Pejic wears skimpy La Perla lingerie while posing as a female, while a more masculine side of him looks aggressive in suits.
Pejic is the second model to push gender boundaries on Elle; transgender Brazilian model Lea T wore Givenchy on Brazilian Elle‘s cover in 2011.
Kourtney Kardashian has revealed that she has lost 44 pounds of her baby weight after giving birth to her second child Penelope last July, after adopting an intensive fitness regime.
The 33-year-old television personality, whose sister Kim recently confirmed her pregnancy, said that it was harder to lose weight this time around, Contactmusic reported.
The mother of two disclosed that she now weights a trim 106 pounds and credited celebrity personal trainer Tracy Anderson’s 90-minute dance-focused workouts and portion control for helping her to regain her pre-pregnancy shape.
But despite being thrilled with her new body, the mum-of-two insisted that she wasn’t obsessed with dieting and is more concerned with keeping her children happy.
Kylie Minogue insists her ‘glory days are over’ when it comes to her butt.
The 44-year-old Australian singer, who is famed for her pert derriere, has joked that she has competition from the likes of Kim Kardashian and Pippa Middleton these days.
“Ooooh I don’t know! I think I’d come third. I don’t know who would come first or second. I’m hanging in there but my glory days are over,” Stuff.co.nz quoted her as saying in an interview with the UK edition of OK! Magazine.
“My bum is still in the news though — I was on The Wendy Williams Show in New York last week and she said my bum was voted number one. I was embarrassed because I think she was referring to an old poll,” she added.
Scarlett Johansson has lamented about being “super-sexualised” at aged 18, after her “bombshell” figure was compared with Marilyn Monroe.
The Avengers star said that a “curvy” figure ran in her family, which attracted extra attention when she dressed up for film premieres, the Telegraph reported.
The 28-year-old actress said that she thought that any woman who is curvy and wears a gown to an event is super-sexualised.
The bikini’s days appear to be numbered as the itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny two-piece is no longer the automatic weapon in a woman’s beach wardrobe after celebs and designers are celebrating maillots — the one-piece swimsuit — with nary a bikini in sight.
According to fashion experts, this means that New York women will be flocking to hot spots in the upcoming winter months are more likely than ever to turn to the one-piece to make waves.
ArteMare co-founder and designer Quentin Smith says that nowhere is the adage “what goes around, comes around” more true than with women’s apparel, the New York Post reported.
He says maillot mania is most likely due to “the 1950s pin-up resurgence we’re seeing in many areas of women’s fashion.”
Just like big labels, contemporary and more youth-centric designers like Wildfox, We Are Handsome and Roxy are adding colourful versions of the full-on bathing suit to their repertoires.
Designers are only too happy to oblige customers seeking this new kind of swimwear chic.
New versions of the tank suit aren’t exactly a return to modesty. Designers are spicing up their offerings by showing suits with plunging necklines, strategic cutouts and down-to-there zippers. Hahn says tank suits in siren-red hues or colourblock prints, along with ruched ones that hide flaws, are best sellers.
Some lines, like Threads and Fins’ aptly named Minimale Animale, leave little to the imagination.
The one-piece has been overshadowed by its itsy-bitsy counterpart, the bikini, ever since it was invented by French engineer Louis Reard in 1946 and named for the infamous nuclear testing site Bikini Atoll.
It immediately caused ripples at Cannes and Hollywood, with bikinis covering — sometimes just barely — the enviable assets of pin-ups from the ’40s and ’50s like Bettie Page and Marilyn Monroe and, then later, ’60s sex goddesses like Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot.
But in the decades that followed, the one-piece made a comeback, propelled by athletic supermodels like Cheryl Tiegs and Cindy Crawford, and blonde beauties like Bo Derek in 10.
Zooey Deschanel has criticised new actresses, saying that a lot of them are just too skinny.
In an interview with Glamour Magazine the 32-year-old actress said that the women she grew up admiring such as Debra Winger, Diane Keaton and Meryl Streep were all beautiful and thin, but not too thin.
She disclosed that there were a lot of actresses today who were unhealthy-and much too skinny.
She said that she was a small person and if she lost about 15 pounds she would look just like them, which was a scary thought, Fox News reported.
She said that young girls didn’t have to be an anoerexic to be successful, as the range of what was acceptable was larger than people believed.
Chinese supermodel Fei Fei Sun has become the first Asian to feature on the cover of Vogue Italia — a groundbreaking development for the fashion glossy.
The 31-year-old has landed starring roles in some of the biggest beauty campaigns on the planet, including becoming the face of DKNY’s Be Delicious fragrance and Calvin Klein’s One.
Although Sun and her compatriot, fellow Chinese supermodel Du Juan, have previously featured in an Italian Vogueeditorial, this is the first time that an Asian model has made the cover of the glossy.
French Vogue was the first European magazine to feature an Asian model on its cover, when Du Juan appeared on an issue in 2011.
Emma Stone has revealed that she finds it “hilarious” that she was named Vogue‘s best dressed celebrity of 2012, as it is her stylist who makes the majority of decisions about her outfits.
The 24-year-old actress — known for her classic outfits — praised the guidance of her stylist Petra Flannery in helping her stay true to her own style.
Stone said that Flannery knew that she wouldn’t wear a lot of glitter or anything that would make her look like a Victorian doll, Contactmusic reported.
According to Glamour Magazine, Stone also credited her mother Krista for advising her on what to avoid wearing when she was growing up.
She said that when she was a teenager and all the cool girls used to wear their pyjama pants in school, her mother forbade her from doing that — or letting her bra straps show.
